Services & Processes
What types of editing do you offer?
We specialise in a hybrid service that blends developmental editing (big-picture structure, pacing, worldbuilding, character arcs) with line editing (tone, rhythm, clarity, and sentence-level style). We also offer bespoke options for shorter works, first chapters, or early-stage manuscripts.
What’s included in your hybrid edit?
Each hybrid edit includes:
- In-line comments and suggestions (using Track Changes)
- An editorial summary or letter
- Structural and stylistic guidance
- Limited revisions depending on package (optional)
This all-in-one approach allows for deep, cohesive feedback in a single pass -saving you time and cost while preserving your creative momentum.
What genres do you specialise in?
Our focus is fiction – especially fantasy, science fiction, and cross-genre/speculative fiction. We’re also happy to consider literary fiction, magical realism, and other imaginative or layered works that don’t fit neatly into one category.
Do you edit short stories, novellas, or series?
Yes! We work with standalone pieces, serialised works, and complete manuscripts. We also offer first-chapter critiques and story development support for authors building toward a full-length book.
Will I work with the same editor throughout?
Yes. You’ll have a consistent point of contact throughout your project – someone who understands your manuscript, voice, and goals from start to finish.
Booking & Delivery
How do I book an edit?
You can contact us via our website contact form or email address, and we’ll arrange a tailored quote or discovery chat. Once we confirm details, we’ll provide a booking date and contract.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 4–6 weeks in advance to secure your ideal timeline, especially for full-length manuscripts. On occasion, we may be able to facilitate an earlier service, depending on availability.
What file formats do you accept?
We typically work in .doc
or .docx
formats, but can also accept .rtf
or Google Docs.
How is work delivered?
All edits are delivered digitally, usually in Microsoft Word with Track Changes. If you prefer Google Docs or PDF markup, just let us know.
Do you offer sample edits or consultations?
Yes. We offer complimentary first-chapter samples for full manuscript clients.
Pricing & Packages
How is pricing determined?
Pricing is based on word count, service type, and manuscript condition. We offer transparent per-word rates and tailored package options.
Do you offer payment plans?
For longer projects, we’re happy to offer payment in instalments. We usually ask for 50% upfront and the remainder upon delivery. Reach out if you have any concerns, we’re flexible and dedicated to finding a payment plan that works for you, which can include payment by chapter or 10,000 word block.
What if I only need developmental or line editing?
While we specialise in hybrid edits, we can tailor your quote to include only developmental or line editing, depending on your needs.
Can I get a custom quote for a longer manuscript?
Absolutely. Just send us the total word count and a brief description of your project, and we’ll prepare a quote and timeframe.
Revisions & Feedback
Do you offer revisions?
Yes — we offer limited rounds of revisions as standard. Additional feedback rounds can be arranged depending on your package.
Will I receive in-line comments and a summary?
Yes. All edits include clear in-line comments and a separate editorial letter summarising big-picture feedback, patterns, and next steps.
Can I ask questions after the edit?
Of course. We’re happy to answer questions and clarify feedback – your confidence and understanding are important to us.
Other Questions
Do you edit UK and US English?
Yes. We’re comfortable editing in both and will follow your preferred dialect and style conventions.
Do you offer proofreading?
Not as a standalone service, but light proofreading is included as part of our line edits. We recommend a dedicated proofreader as a final stage before publication.
Will you fact-check or verify technical content?
We do not offer formal fact-checking or legal/medical accuracy services. However, we’ll flag anything that feels inconsistent or unclear within our experience.
Do you guarantee publication?
No editor can guarantee publication – and anyone who does should be treated with caution. What we do promise is honest, constructive feedback designed to give your manuscript its strongest possible chance.
